A Mother's Day Tribute: The Gift of Time

Every language has a word for mother. The Danish say “Mor”, the English say, “Mum” or “Mummy”, the Hawaiians say “Makuahine”, and the Norwegians say ”Madre”. However, as Edwin Hubber Chapin said, “No language can express the power, and the beauty, and heroism, and majesty of a mother’s love…” Some of us are luckier than others to still have our mothers with us. Some mothers are in their prime of motherhood, and some mothers reside in nursing homes. Regardless, mothers are extra-special and deserve a lot more attention than just one day in May dedicated to all that they do for us.

Mothers are indeed the unsung heroes, and sometimes despite all of their efforts and sacrifices, their dedication goes unnoticed or unacknowledged. Remember the time when your mother stayed up all night to put the final touches on the Spring Dance dress she just made for you? She wanted it extra-special for you! Remember the time when you needed a shoulder to cry on and she patiently listened to all your woes and then pulled you out of the mess? She wanted to be there for you! Remember when … Remember when … She never asked for anything in return. Her love can’t be measured – it can only be felt. What your mother does (or did) for you is beyond words, but when her love and sacrifice is felt, you realize that surely your mom deserves something special.

Mother’s Day is just one occasion that gives you the opportunity to do something for your mother. Treat her for being there for you all the time and guiding you in the right direction. Give your mother the greatest gift of all – “The Gift of Time”. This gift does not arrive in a pretty package (although that may be a matter of opinion), it does not come in a bright pink or yellow envelope, and it’s not meant just to keep Hallmark in business. It is delivered with the touch of a hand, the smile of a child, and a kiss and a hug. The greatest gift you could give your mother this Mother’s Day (or any day) is “The Gift of Time”. Spend time with your mother. “Time” is finite and will eventually end. Enjoy it while you can.

Mothers here at Lemon GroveCare and Rehabilitation are loved by our caring staff, their visiting families, other residents, and the family of cats (yes, the cats)! Our mothers here experience how we can change a day in the life of a resident to be the “Best it Can Be”! We Give. We Care. We Love. But there is always room for more love.

So, this Mother’s Day, and throughout the year, let us spend more time with our mothers and make them feel appreciated! HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY from Lemon Grove Care and Rehabilitation!!

It is wonderful to be
in on the
creation of something,
see it used,
and then walk away and smile at it.
