For seniors, eating healthy is more important than in any other age group.   2. For most seniors, dehydration can be a big problem. One of the best ways to keep yourself hydrated is to keep a water bottle by your side at all times. This is especially important if you are working out. Drinking water through out the day will keep your body functioning properly and efficiently.
  3. Another important diet tip for seniors is take plenty of calcium. Osteoporosis is a widespread condition among seniors that can cause aches, pains and can even make it impossible to walk. Seniors can receive their daily-required amount of calcium and vitamin D from milk and cheese, and for people that are lactose intolerant, soy is a great alternative. Many people in their advanced years can also get their calcium from supplements.
  4. Eating lots of high protein foods is important too. Things like fish, eggs and chicken. Elderly people want to avoid eating red meats, which are full of protein, but are also fatty and have a high caloric intake. Elderly people can also receive protein from fruit – either whole or in smoothie form – from avocado, peaches and figs.
  5. Also, seniors should try and avoid alcohol. Alcohol is typically hard for an aging body to metabolize. Elderly people who drink are increasing their risk of high blood pressure and heart disease. Most doctors say that drinking a couple glasses of wine a week won’t hurt most elderly people and there is no reason you couldn’t enjoy a cocktail once in a blue moon.

For people in their advance years, health is more important than ever. Your body is far more susceptible and vulnerable due to the consequences of age.
